“..a little less like agreeing with a long list of statements, and a little more like falling in love…” – Donald Miller, on what Christianity really is

What a great book, and a great time to be reading it.  I was able to spend 2 hours at Panera this morning, finally.  I hope this to become a saturday morning ritual, cause man I liked it.  And this book really is great.  It’s got romance, humor, violence, nudity….everything that makes a great book about God.  Nothing so incredibly profound that I need to write it all down because it’s the greatest revelation I’ve ever read about a new way to interpret scripture.  And yet, some of the most beautiful pictures painted about the Love God has for His favorite creation….US.  So many great things to chew on mentally/spiritually/emotionally.  I recommend Donald Miller to anyone who has become bored with Christianity, sick of the mundane, routine God.  Sick of the Sunday morning, wednesday night, prayers before bed and dinner God.  Sick of the “help me when I need you”, and that’s about it God.  Sick of the God that we created as opposed to the God that Created us.  And so, in essence…don’t feel bad.  You’re not sick of God at all.  You’re sick of images of God we’ve created.  Why?  Because when WE create them, they’re boring.  Miller reminds us of the God who SPOKE us into existence.  Who mystified and frightened early believers to the point of needing a rope tied around their waist in case they were incapacitated by His Absolute Other-ness.  God.

And romance….wow.  To relate every aspect possible of romance and love, even as mushy as we can think of it….to God, and to our relationship with Him.  To think of God as trying to “romance” His creation, and our worship is romance in return….it’s a beautiful picture.  One that threatens my masculinity….but why?  Who cares, right?  I was created to be romanced by my creator, and to respond accordingly.:)  It’s a good thing…and it’s to be experienced in community.

Anyways, needless to say I’ve had a great morning, and am ready for the day.  I need more mornings like this morning.  I think most of us do.:)  Love God, Love Others…..take time to be romanced.  God bless.
