God is good.

I’m thankful for the bits of Sabbath that are sprinkled evenly through out my week. The small chunks of time I’m able to take a breath from all that life continues to throw my way. The hours of driving. The minutes before I leave the bed. The 10 minute shower. Chewing my food. Etc.

I was reminded recently of the responsibility of creation. A responsibility and a duty that we all share. A responsibility that we often forget/neglect.

We are born with a tendency to lean towards the concept that we own this life. This life, this body, these thoughts, this imagination, these gifts….these are completely mine. I want. I strive. I desire. I achieve. I will.

God reminds us, yes we have been given free will. But our responsibility is to come to a greater understanding. Our duty as creation is to realize and live towards ALL of creation. Thomas Merton said “no man is an island”. No matter how individual we wish to live our lives, or how separate we want to keep ourselves from others, we’re inexplicably connected. Each life, each spirit, each soul is affected, and affects those around it. As a believer in Christ, God is calling us to be more and more aware of how we are each a piece of the whole of creation He has created to bring Him joy.

Easy for the cynic to look at the picture. If I were to create my own world, in which every creature in the world had only one purpose, to give me Joy, and worship me….it would seem a bit arrogant, eh? Like I was completely full of myself. Why? Because I’m human. Because to have someone worship me, or to see myself as worthy of worship is un-natural.

Enter God. Alpha and Omega. Infinite. The I Am. Is it arrogant for God to create a world in which every living thing has only one purpose, to worship Him? No.

It’s the nature of God to be God. And only God. And yet, He became human….lived with us…..died….suffers…knows us each intimately.

Praise God we have a God who Loves us so much.

Remember to seek how you fit into God’s total creation this week, this year, and throughout your life.
