Luke 14:12-14

It’s so simple we might have missed
What Jesus said to His host
Of course, He told him to invite those
Who have little reason to boast

Invite the poor, the crippled the lame
Even if you think they won’t come
Invite the ones who walk with a cane
Who can’t pay you back when you’re done

Relate to others outside of economy
Don’t worry what you get in return
We enjoy those around us and love genuinely
When receiving is not a concern.

“What if someone is blind and has money?”
Might be an obvious response.
Invite them because of God’s Love
Not because they can meet any of your wants

We’ve been invited to His feast together
And looking both ways down the table
We are seated with infinite others
None of whom is remotely able

Able to give back even a portion
In response to the banquet He’s spread
Especially when we pause to remember
He’s offered Himself as the bread

An exciting detail, that we might miss
As He gave instructions back then –
When speaking of throwing a party, you see,
He didn’t say “if”, he said “when”.

1 Peter 1:13-16

Therefore prepare your minds for action
Distractions that focus on satisfaction
Last for a moment and are gone
This is a song you were born to sing
So bring your whole self to the table
Everything you’re able to give
All with which you live

(And if you find yourself unable
Because you’ve already set the table
With a loss of self control
Sin has taken its toll
And you feel it deep in your soul:
Scroll. Up.)

Your soul is receiving salvation
A station broadcasting new creation
Your signal is attuned to His
Set aside for the purposes of Love
This is Kingdom life
Inside – not trying to hide
But begging to be revealed
For through it, all is healed
Called to be Holy.

That doesn’t mean everything perfect is,
It simply means understanding
Everything is His.

1 Peter 1:8-12

You are holding a treasure
That is worth more than pleasure
But of pure inexpressible joy
Like favorite toy in your childhood
By infinite, multiplied
Even though you haven’t seen
You know what it means
The obscene truth
Of God becoming what you are
The angels have seen stars born and die
And still sigh in awe
Of what God is doing here
In you.
For you.
Through you.
(You is plural.)

More than painting a mural along a wall
He’s used all of creation to design
Masterpiece.
As death ceases to be an end
God becomes friend to those dying
Crying out “Hope”
When we weren’t even listening
Beauty glistening on the tears of salvation received.
All because you believed –
and received what He’d done.
You discover.
God’s Son – has become
Our brother.
