Ezekiel 36:8-15

God addresses the mountains
Not from a poetic heart
Our role within creation
Was designed from the start

That role was made imbalanced
By the entering in of sin
And so God speaks on our behalf
A new season about to begin

As God’s people return to be His
Creation is impacted
The way land and humanity worship
Has changed the way they interacted

No longer will they treat the land
As something to subdue
They worship its creator
And His honor they pursue.

As humanity returns to till the land
And sow a more fruitful seed
They find it capable of offering them
More of what they need

We are not saved by our own hands
Yet creation will be blessed
When we humbly care for her
Instead of exploiting her treasure chest

God’s plan for salvation
goes way beyond our hearts
Nevertheless we can’t forget
That is the place it starts…

Isaiah 59:9-19

He saw there was no justice
Our lives were in despair
His children lived in darkness
And He could not leave us there

We stumbled around blindly
We made only animal sounds
There was no one among us
Who could turn everything around

His loved moved Him to action
Salvation on our behalf
To those who stood for injustice
They were forced to face His wrath

Light for those in darkness
Living Word for those who groan,
As Jesus, our redeemer
Gave His life and gained the throne.

We watch with admiration
His loving sacrifice we see
And through our grateful worship
We hear Him say “follow me”.

Step boldly into injustice
On behalf of those without a voice
I’ve given you my own heart
But you’ll still need to make a choice

Know that I am with you,
The source of all you need.
It’s not your job to break the chains
Simply announce – they have been freed.

1 Samuel 16:1-13

How long will we mourn what wasn’t,
When God calls us toward what could be?
Samuel feared the wrath of Saul
God continues – “Obey me.”

Samuel sacrificed along with Jesse
And seven of his sons
As each one passed God let them go
For this was not the one.

Mankind sees what’s on the outside
But the Lord looks on the heart
There was an eighth son tending sheep
Who wasn’t there from the start

It hadn’t even occurred to them
To bring David inside.
It wasn’t that they actively
Were attempting him to hide.

They had assumed the obvious
God wants to use the strong
But looking back we’re reminded
Whose strength filled David’s songs

So often we mistake meekness
For humble gentle hearts
But God pushes away our excuses
Hitching His horses to our carts

For it is in our weakness
Gods light has room to shine
If you’d assumed He’d use someone else
God whispers – “now’s the time…”
