1 Peter 5:1-5

A word to all the elders
Of their duty to their flock
To not outsource what matters
To the newest on the block

Zeal is no replacement for
Years of humble loving service
Yet instead of arrogance
Knowing this should us nervous

That we not become motivated
By doing any of this for our gain
For the foundation we do any of it
Is to bring glory to one Name

The chief shepherd is returning
To share glory never fading
So we can encourage all the sheep
There will come an end to our waiting

We must put on true humility
(Not false airs of self denial)
As servants of new sheep arrived
Not judges at a trial.

We serve as we have been served
And Love as He’s Loved us
Empowered by the Spirit given
And through whom we place our trust

He will return to complete everything
His promises He’ll keep
Until that day we continue in Love,
To serve and pursue His sheep

1 Peter 2:19-25

It is a sign of grace
If you suffer while doing right
But if you suffer while doing wrong
There’s no reason for you to fight

We don’t do what’s asked of us
In order to pay Caesar’s price
We walk forward humbly in Love
To reveal the Love of Christ

We don’t shake our fist and declare
“Jesus sets us free!
From following laws of men and so
We can live disobediently!”

But if, when showing love
Or offering unmerited grace
We find ourselves being cast aside
Or even just losing face

We look to our example
Christ – who did no wrong
Even though loving others
Put Him in chains He didn’t belong

He endured through suffering
Without demanding His rights
He trusted realities we couldn’t see
When others called Him to fight

By His wounds we have been healed
We, sheep who’d gone astray
So instead of asking “how can I be free?”
We’d ask “how can I Love?” today.

1 Peter 2:13-17

All authority is an echo
Of the God who holds all things
We’re called to accept their position
And the justice it can bring

Whether the highest in command
Or their local representation
(But even as we honor these,
We are freed as a nation.)

We are actually a people
Globally set apart
Our citizenship lies not in flags
But in condition of the heart

Our freedom is not a pretext
To do whatever we please
But a way of living faithfully
No matter how blows the breeze

Whether storms and unrest surround us
From governors or Kings
We do not live in worry
About what the next day brings

We offer honor to all
From powerful and rich
To those who live beside us
To those without a stitch

We have a larger family
Than those who vote the same
We have been made New Creation
And all bow before His name.
