Ezekiel 33:10-16

Why say something so obvious
To those who seem to know?
Why would God take the time to share
These words with those below?

“If you keep on following
The path you currently walk
You’ll end up where you’re going.”
(And he continued to talk.)

“If you turn around
and go a better way
You’ll end up somewhere better.”
(Seems too obvious to say.)

Surely Ezekiel could think of
Something more profound to say
Than “If you don’t go anywhere,
Then you’ve chosen to stay.”

But it only seems too obvious
To those who look from outside
As if we aren’t the ones caught in
Lives we were trying to hide.

To those who felt God’s eyes on them
And recognized their place
The words weren’t just stating the obvious
They were offers of Love and Grace.

What we were up to yesterday
Is not more powerful than God,
He calls us to truly turn toward Him
Away from all facade.

Isaiah 42:14-21

When God moves, we tell each other
It blesses our hearts straight through
You can see people raise hands in worship
And know He’s starting something New

The quiet might get all revved up
The mute may shout “Amen!”
Then we will go home and wait
For God to show up again.

But Isaiah reminds us
When God is truly on the move
He will not hide the evidence
And there will be no need to prove

He lays waste to mountains
And dries up all the pools
He takes all human wisdom
And makes them look like fools

What used to seem like darkness
Becomes a light to guide
There will not be any secret place
That is safe enough to hide

Those who trust in man-made things
Or find their peace in self
Recognize how blind you are
And how pitiful – your wealth.

Compared to what God is doing
And invites us to join His song,
He’s given us His Spirit
And all Heaven sings along…

1 Samuel 16:1-13

How long will we mourn what wasn’t,
When God calls us toward what could be?
Samuel feared the wrath of Saul
God continues – “Obey me.”

Samuel sacrificed along with Jesse
And seven of his sons
As each one passed God let them go
For this was not the one.

Mankind sees what’s on the outside
But the Lord looks on the heart
There was an eighth son tending sheep
Who wasn’t there from the start

It hadn’t even occurred to them
To bring David inside.
It wasn’t that they actively
Were attempting him to hide.

They had assumed the obvious
God wants to use the strong
But looking back we’re reminded
Whose strength filled David’s songs

So often we mistake meekness
For humble gentle hearts
But God pushes away our excuses
Hitching His horses to our carts

For it is in our weakness
Gods light has room to shine
If you’d assumed He’d use someone else
God whispers – “now’s the time…”
