Ezekiel 37:1-14

A valley of dry bones
The epitome of death
Imagine taking in the scene
How it took away Ezekiel’s breath.

A place of such desolation
No hope of life in sight
Then God began to tell Ezekiel
How to set things right.

“Speak the words I’ve given you:
Be clothed in flesh again.”
How frightening to see bones rise,
And flesh appear on them.

But if the story ended there
It wouldn’t be complete
Just a valley of assembled bones
With skin over their feet.

If you took a picture
It may look like all is fine
But standing in that valley
In the passing of some time

Time allows what really is
To be completely known.
In this case, there was no breath
To bring life to the bones

Don’t be discouraged by dry bones
But just as important is this:
Don’t assume what looks like life
Truly always is.

Invite the Holy Spirit
To examine every part
Not only bones and muscle
But breathe deep into your heart.

Hebrews 10:4-10

It’s impossible for bulls and goats
To take away our sin
Because of this, prophetic words
Were spoken as Christ came in:

“Sacrifices and offerings
You have wanted not,
Neither burnt nor sin offerings
(Even though they have a lot.)

But a body you’ve prepared for me
And your will I’ve come to do,
I’m written of in the scroll of the book
And I’m here to see it through.”

He offered His own body
A Holy sacrifice
He wasn’t just following the law
Or paying a required price

Some reduce it to equation
Settling a debt from way back when
But God could’ve simply destroyed creation
And started over again.

There is Love in His redemption
Fulfillment of all things
To abolish all need for offerings burnt
By prophets, priests or kings

He’s all three, and leads His people out
Where freedom has arrived
By His own blood, He sets us free
And we are sanctified.

Genesis 12:1-4a

I bought some eggs from the store
SO THAT we could bake a cake
We filled the piñata with candy
SO THAT at the party, it’d break

I put some soap in the water
SO THAT the garments would clean
We purchased some clothes for our children
SO THAT they wouldn’t be obscene

She wore a swimming suit to the poolside
SO THAT she could jump in the pool
He was given a glass of ice water
SO THAT in the heat, he’d stay cool.

We wash our hands in warm water
SO THAT we get rid of the germs
When we buy a car, we read the fine print
SO THAT we’re aware of the terms

We hold the hands of our loved ones
SO THAT they know we are near
We wrap our arms around children
SO THAT they know Love over fear

Abram received the Lords’ blessing
And through it sometimes so are we
But tragically we receive it
And are often content just to BE.

Next time you notice a blessing
(Slow down, you’ll see where it’s at.)
Be sure to look back to the source of it all
And ask what may be His “SO THAT”.
