Colossians 4:2-5

Paul writes to Colossae
Not complaining of his chains
Freedom for himself is not
Something for which he strains

He implores them to keep praying
To be thankful and assured
The most important freedom
Is the sharing of the Word

The mystery of Christ
That longs to be revealed
Is that good news all creation
Through it, could be healed

He even reminds himself
To stay focused on clarity
The good news is not simply
Offering the world a bit more charity

But take every opportunity
To reveal the mystery of Christ
The resurrected Savior
Who did more than say “be nice.”

He gave up his own body
And was then resurrected
So that New Creation Life
Could be something we expected…

Matthew 28:1-10

Even Jesus needed an angel
To roll away the stone
Perhaps if not, the guards would’ve thought
He’d risen all alone.

As if he hadn’t really died
Just suffered so immensely
So bright and shining angel of the Lord
While they watched & fainted, tensely

The women watched and didn’t faint
But waited on the Lord
But there must have been a little fear
Which the angel dismissed in word

“Jesus is not here, for He is raised.”
The mighty angel said,
“Now go and tell his disciples
He’s risen from the dead!”

They turned with quick intent to run
With such joy in their eyes
But dropped to worship instantly
When Jesus appeared, “Surprise!”

Such a childlike Savior, appearing
While the angel was on a mission
And telling them to hurry back
Maybe He wanted to go fishing…

John 20:1-18

Mary didn’t come praying
“Jesus, please be resurrected.”
She had no way of understanding
What was to be expected

Sometimes we think God requires prayer
That understands out of thin air
What to ask for, and when to say
Exactly what He’d want today.

The mystery of the empty tomb
A hope for which they’d not given much room
The disciples returned to where they lived
While Mary had more grief to give.

Two angels first appeared within
And asked her why she wept
“They have taken my Lord away
And now I’m unsure where He’s kept.”

Then the gardener from outside
Smiled and asked the same
She was overwhelmed and smiling wide
As soon as He said her name

It was no gardener standing there
In physical body appeared
It was Jesus, resurrected
Saying “do not hold me here”.”

“I didn’t return to stay forever
But to tell you I must go,
But tell the brothers I will ascend
And I’m here so you will know.”

So Mary went to share the news
Soon as the disciples she did reach
(Which lays a pretty good foundation
For all women called to preach.)

Jesus, resurrected Lord
Firstborn of New Creation
Reveals to us the Father’s Power
And offers us His Salvation…
