Here we go again with another “Five Minute Friday” post! To learn more about “Five Minute Friday” (FMF), check out the linked image here. Basically, each week there’s a word given for you to write about. You start writing, no back-tracking, editing, etc. At the end of 5 minutes, you stop. Then you post it, and share in the community of words that were birthed during these 24-ish hours. It’s cool stuff.
So here’s this week’s response to the word: “ cherished ”
I’m still only beginning a new understanding of the amazing capacity for Love God has given me. Here we wait, documents all prepared, approved by State and Country, money…well, still in the process of being raised. We are waiting for our daughter. Waiting to hear her name. To see her face. To know her story. To bring her home from Africa.
Where is she right now? I’ve no idea. In a country where children are being turned soldiers. Where women are being abused at young ages in horrible ways. Where infants are dying of malnourishment and abandonment. Where even those who want to adopt are unfortunately inadvertantly involving themselves in perpetuating a system of corruption and valuing money over loving the orphans and widows.
Somewhere in the brokenness, a child waits. She doesn’t know it either. That she has a mommy and daddy. She has 3 sisters waiting for her, racing to be the first to name her as our first “prayer request” tonight. That she is incredibly cherished, even before I can hold her close, look deep into her eyes, and convey it with word and presence.
To think that all of this barely scratches the surface of my fathers love for me. My father who adopted me into his loving family. Who rescued me, and gave me to share His name….so that I could join his loving movement…
Grr…probably good to only have 5 minutes on this one. If you’d like to help us in our fundraising – you can click the link on the right side of this page….”Both Hands”. 🙂 Any amount adds up. But even more so….if you could add us to your prayers….we need His peace and patience…and doors to be opened. 🙂 Thanks friends!
It is a love hate relationship with international adoption but one with the most amazing ending that reminds us why we did all that. She is such a cherished child of God and your family. I can’t wait to see her in your arms. Good luck on your journey!
Thanks Melissa. 🙂 It’s been a rollercoaster already…can’t wait either…
This is such a love-filled post. I can feel this cherishing here and pass it along, via prayers, to your little daughter who is waiting… many prayers to each and all.
Thanks Julie. It’s definitely done so much in our hearts already….and we thought it wouldn’t happen when we brought her home!
As an adoptive parent: I appreciate your cherished!
Prayers for your journey.
thanks Renee…it’s a great supportive, and prayerful community for sure. 🙂
… and how blessed and cherished that child will be …
thanks Linda…we’ve definitely been blessed by her so much already…:)
Awesome! God will let her know how much she is cherished even while you are apart. He has ways…… Thanks for sharing.
Definitely believe it…even if it’s hard to wrap our minds around. Thanks for reading!!
Oh she won’t even know what hit her…it will be so surreal, she’ll always have that realization that God does cherish her…after all — He gave her you.
okay, now I’m all emotional…great write, Wick!
Glad God’s heart is still moving through these words beyond our home….all of this and she’s still so far away. So near to our hearts, thankfully. Thanks for reading, Nikki!
Wow, how cherished your daughter already is, and how cherished you/we are by our adoptive Father God…praying God provides for you and your family.
Amen to that….thanks Dolly!! 🙂
I’d love to follow your journey with her. I live in South Africa and I think the more local you are the more anaesthetised you become to the horror out there.
Thanks for joining us in prayer, Jenn! We’d love to have yours! 🙂
Thanks for joining us in prayer, Jenn! We’d love to have yours! 🙂
I am praying for your family. I pray that you will be patient and your little girl will come home soon. Just like God is perfecting you, He is perfecting her for you. Like a mother in labor, you will forget the pain once you see her beautiful face.

Beautiful. I can feel the love you have for that child who’s not yet in your arms. One day she will be. I’m praying for you and your family.
Thanks for your prayers, Tanya….she’s not in our arms, but she’s definitely held by our hearts. So amazed by God’s capacity for love, which we’ve not even scratched the surface of!
This is probably the best “Cherished” post I’ve read this week. Praying for your family and your adoption journey, Wick.
Wow, humbling comment…..thanks so much for your prayers, Sheena! 🙂
